Table for Theatre... Check!

On Saturday my darling wife informed me that she had found the "perfect" drinks table for our Theatre. Being 200km away did not really help... so she sent me the following image and a video (still being uploaded) of the supposed "wow factor" feature... the swivel... in which the top glass panel turns to reveal the amazing hidden bottom glass panel; NOTE THE SARCASM!




Theatre Speaker System Has Arrived

Today... only two days after ordering... our Paradigm Monitor 11 speaker system arrived at our doorstep courtesy of TNT Express. With a combined weight of 117.8kg, we won't be unboxing them between now and we our house is finished, so if you want to see what they look like, check out my previous post about what the contents of the system entails. LG or Sony... Theatre Room TV

One of the things that really frustrates me about buying electronic equipment is that its a huge job to job to compare all of the tech specs on them and to get a reliable sense of opinion on which is the better gadget. I have narrowed down our choice of Theater TV to the 79-inch models from LG and Sony. From the limited research that I've done the LG TV has better energy efficiency (5 star compared to 4 star) and the LG TV has a high refresh rate (200Hz compared to 100Hz). NUC or DLNA... what to do!?

Those that have been following the blog for a while will realise that I am going to have a very hefty home network running. One of the deliberations that I seem to get very varied opinions on relates to whether or not we get NUC devices (aka super small PC's) and attach them to the TV's in our Media and Rumpus rooms or whether we stick with DLNA (which streams audio/video to your TV).

The only benefit of having a NUC is the ability to use a TV as a massive screen which would enable awesome visuals on gaming, although that would depend on the specs of the NUC that we bought.

Home Theatre System (Update - Confirmed!)

Recently I got into a discussion with some people about their Home Theatre systems and I got the itch to do some more research on a system for our place. Having done some of my own research about brands, pricing and configurations that would match the configuration of our Media room I reckon that the following configuration (from Eastwood Hifi) is a good fit...

Two Speakers... $220,000!

Every so often I check a couple of highly recommended online stores to see if they have any great package deals on Paradigm Monitor 11 or Studio 100 speakers (to go in our Media room). Interestingly, when I misspelled a word in my Google search, I came across a pair of floor standing speakers that cost a whopping $220,000 dollars... the Focal Utopia 3 Grande. I know that they must be absolutely incredible speakers but I am hoping that someone can tell me what is so special about them to justify the heft price tag. OGM - The Six Million Dollar HOME Theatre

When I was searching for a home theatre system I thought that I'd be a bit radicle and search for the world's most expensive home theatre setup.
