To Serve or Not to Serve?... That is The Question
One of the dilemmas that I am currently facing is whether or not to put a server into our network configuration. The IT department at work as well as a IT savvy friend of mine say that even though it would be overkill I would have a lot of options "for the future" (e.g. proxy server, VLAN, backups, virtual machines etc.), whereas other people that I talk to say that if I get an enterprise grade NAS then it will do all of the tasks that I could possibly need.
What should I do?
The type of server setups, price range wise, are shown below. Systems recommendations are most welcome.
Do you know anyone that runs anything like this at their house?
